  • Blade was ccreated by the writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan, first appearing in the comic book "Tomb of Dracula#10" in July 1973.
  • The story of his origin appeared in issue 13.
  • Blade originally wore a bandolier which held wooden stakes.
  • Blade is a "Dhampire" - a human with vampire genes.
  • He has a long lasting friendship with Hannibal King - a private eye turned vampire.
  • It is King who helps him to destry Deacon Frost, the vampire who bit Blade's mother.
  • In 1994 Blade had his own comic, which lasted ten issues.
  • Blade, with help from others - including Doctor Strange, eventually destroyed Dracula and - for a while all vampires in the Marvel Universe.
  • Artist Gene Colan also helped to create Daredevil.
