Hellboy began life in 1993 in San Diego Comic-Con Comics #2.
He was the creation of Mike Mignola who both illustrated and wrote the stories.

Hellboy has a tail and two horns which grow out of the top of his head. He files these down
to stumps in an attempt to deny his demonic heritage.
His right hand, which appears to be made of stone is known as the "Right Hand of Doom" and
may one day be used to bring about the apocalypse.
Hellboy was 'born' in 1944 summoned by Nazi occultists
He was rescued by Allied forces and raised by the United States’ Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD).
He was granted honorary human status by the UN in the 1950s.
Hellboy has been known to fight werewolves, ghosts and vampires.
He is immensely strong and his body can withstand fire and severe punishment.
His demonic name is Anung Un Rama.
Hellboy often carries weapons and a number of holy relics to help combat supernatural forces.
