Directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Junior as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man and Terrence Howard as Jim Rhodes aka War Machine. Gwyneth Paltrow has been cast to play Virginia "Pepper" Potts - Tony Stark's loyal assistant and now Jeff Bridges has been confirmed to join the cast as a business associate of Tony Stark.

The plot centres around billionaire Tony Stark, a gifted scientist working in weapons defense technology.

When a rival's attempt on his life leaves him vulnerable, he has to build himself a special suit of armour in order to survive.

Eventually he develops this into a powerful, flying, crime fighting weapon, also creating one for his friend Jim Rhodes, turning him into War Machine.

The Iron Man suit has been built by Stan Winston.

Iron Man's nemesis will be Mandarin - as yet uncast.

Principle filming is now complete, and the film will be released on May 2 2008
