  • Judge Dredd first appeared in the british comic 2000 AD #2 in 1977.
  • He was created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra.
  • Dredd and his fellow Judges have the power to arrest, sentence and execute perpetrators on the spot.
  • The name Judge Dredd was adapted from "Judge Dread", a horror story written by Pat Mills.
  • Mega-City One, Dredd's home town is based on a futuristic New York city.
  • Dredd is one of a number of clones of Chief Judge Fargo.
  • Dredd's motorbike is known as a "Lawmaster" and his gun as a "Lawgiver".
  • Common Dredd quotes are; "I am the Law" and "Democracy is not for the people".
  • In 1990 Dredd's popularity was rewarded by his own comic "Judge Dredd Megazine" although his stories continued to run in 2000 AD.
  • The Dredd storylines are published in real time, which would place him now at over sixty years old.
