The Silver Surfer made his first appearance in Fantastic Four #48 in 1966.
He was created by Marvel writers Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.
His real name was Norrin Radd and he was a young astronomer from the planet Zenn-La.
He was given his powers by Galactus, a planet-eating alien super being, when the Surfer
agreed to become his herald in return for saving his home planet.
The first Silver Sufer comics were drawn by John Buscema and written by Stan Lee.
On meeting the Fantastic Four, the Surfer is impressed by their nobility and compassion and
so he decides to betray Galactus, who in turn confines him to Earth with an invisible barrier.
The Surfer's power is known as the 'Power Cosmic'.
He has the ability to channel cosmic energy through his body and expel it at will,
to destroy or merely change the structure of the things around him.
The Surfer's silvery skin is extremely tough and makes him virtually indestructable.
He does not need to eat or breathe.
On his board he can travel at near light speed, and can travel through hyperspace.
